What mom is, right?
I have guilt sometimes about things…
Working out of the home,
The occasional fast food meal,
Telling him the chocolate is all gone.
But there’s one thing, one specific thing, that makes me feel worst of all.
When Max is sick, I love how snuggly he gets.
He’s normally all elbows and knees, his five-year old self constantly in motion. Much like what I imagine the end of pregnancy to be; you want to get comfy together, but it just isn’t gonna happen, with all the poking and jabbing.
I know he isn’t feeling well when I’m sitting on the couch and he climbs over to me, probably moaning or sniffling, and climbs into my lap. He can fit his body to mine differently when he isn’t feeling well; all those poking parts get softer, and he melts right onto my lap and snuggles up.
The best part? When he falls asleep like that.
I feel a little bad for enjoying it so much, but I only have so much time before he’s too big for this kind of snuggling! It’s only fleeting, because he’s usually on the mend after a day or so, and I always know when I feel those elbows getting pointy again, that he’s almost better and my time to cuddle on the couch is limited.
And when he finally starts talking again about LEGO or Angry Birds or how hungry he is? And best of all, when he starts smiling again? It’s one of those complicated mom moments, where I’m sad my soft little baby is gone, but I’m so happy to see him back to the crazy kid he is now!
The Tylenol SMILING IT FORWARD™ program is celebrating those moments that make you smile, and invite you to share a photo that makes you smile. For every photo that’s uploaded from now until January 31, 2014, Tylenol will donate $1.00 to Children’s Health Fund!*
