Am I a Funny Girl?

The Biggest Thing

– Posted in: Photography

I’ve mentioned it a million times… I love photography, and always have. Since I took over my parents’ extra bathroom in high school, to use as a darkroom, I’ve been hooked.
I got my first DSLR in 2006, and clicked happily away for a long time, until mid 2010, when I decided to get serious about my photography, and serious about improving.
I switched to manual in late 2010 and haven’t looked back since.
There is one thing I can attribute my improvement to, and it’s this:
www.ClickinMoms.comI’ve read books and blogs, I’ve watched YouTube videos, talked to friends… but no single thing has had the impact on my photography that my Clickin’ Moms membership has had.

Part forum, part online store, part school of photography, there isn’t a question I can ask that isn’t answered by one of the knowledgeable (not just female) members of the board.

Working pros, fine artists, hobbyists like myself, Clickin’ Moms is a safe, private community that is brimming with knowledge, and people who are willing to share it.

I’m not saying I didn’t get lucky sometimes, in catching shots, but shooting with a purpose, putting thought into each click of the shutter instead of “spray and pray”? That’s thanks to Clickin’ Moms.

Here’s a photo I took of a friend’s little boy, just days old, in Nov. 2010:
I know his Mama loves them, and I was proud of them at the time… but looking at it now, there was SO much I didn’t know, and I’m totally ready (*coughcough*) for her to have another one so I can take some more photos! I spent quite a bit of time in Photoshop, editing (read: fixing) that image…
Compare it to one of this one, from a couple of weeks ago. It’s SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) with only a little sharpening applied, not a bunch of time in Photoshop:

I cannot say enough good things about Clickin Moms, and how much I’ve already learned. I’d love for you to join too! It’s hands down the best $5 a month you can spend for your photography.

I’m super excited to be able to offer you 10% OFF your membership, with coupon code FRIEND, good until April 30, 2012.
Not sold yet? Leave a comment with your concerns and I’ll address them! Otherwise, I’m excited to see you on the board, and soon!

That’s Dashy! Okay, I’ll have another just for the shots. I saved that hat because I loved the pictures so much.

Lizz April 9, 2012

Thanks, Laney! I love them too, because I love seeing how far Dash has come, but photographically, I can’t wait for Dash Jr. Or Dashette, or whoever! :) Now get on that! <3

Beautiful shots – the both of them, but wow that second one really pops! :)

Thank you!

What programs do you use to “adjust” the photos? Photoshop? Photoscape?

Lizz April 11, 2012

I’m using Photoshop CS5, but Photoshop Elements is a fantastic, affordable option! You can get it at Costco for less than $100!

Emily April 15, 2012

Found it at Costco. Thanks! Now to figure it out.

Hit me up if you have any questions! I also really like the Peachpit Press Visual Quickstart guides… Like this one: http://bit.ly/s5ACPQ

I’m so inspired! I love your photos! I chatted briefly with the lovely ladies of Clickin Moms at Blogher11 and have wanted to join up ever since. I just need get my hands on my very own DSLR first. My hubby has his but I so don’t want to just borrow his baby. I really want my own.

You can find great deals on some of the entry-level DSLRs! Adorama.com has a great, reputable, used department!

I’ve heard of Clickin Moms but I haven’t given much thought to joining. I’ve got a lot of great info at clickitupanotch.com recently and it’s been free! I like free.
Is Click Moms worth the monthly cost?
